Traditionally, resins have maintained a stronghold on purification modalities. What are your experiences with non standard purification modalities (old school solutions are appreciated!!)?

I love membranes, resin, and fractionation. We try anything to get the job done and identify scaleable processes.

My preference is for resin based modalities. I think they can be a bit more versatile. The obvious reason it the ability to pack columns of various sizes which is most comparable to membrane and monoliths, but I think the real strength in use of resin beads is the ability to use it other ways, like making gravity columns for higher throughput (can run several in parallel as opposed to manning a single AKTA run), resin/elution condition screening in a vacuum plate, or simply putting resin beads directly into culture/media and batch bind product out and simply catch beads over a frit, which then can be used as a gravity column. But definitely knowing your target should guide your use of any purification technique.
